Stainless Steel

Stainless steel is a steel alloy that is known for its resistance to corrosion, rust and stains from water. However it is not impervious to staining as will happen in low oxygen, high saline and poor circulation environments. Some stainless steels are weldable, others are not. Stainless steel is used for both cosmetic and practical applications like cutlery and surgical instruments.

Standard Die has 50 years of experience with fabricating custom stainless steel metal stampings.

Physical Properties

ACID

  • Acid: Stainless steel is fairly impervious to attack by acids.

OXIDATION

  • Oxidation: A relatively high resistance to oxidation can be reached with the addition of chromium

ELECTRICITY AND MAGNETISM

  • Electricity & Magnetism: Stainless is a poor conductor of electricity. Some stainless steels have magnetic properties others do not
